Route To Milford Sound 8: Awaiting Cruise @ Milford Sound

<Southern Discoveries> ( formerly Milford Sound Red Boats )- Spirit Of Milford, is an 1hr 45min scenic cruise, which an international buffet lunch is provided onboard ( an additional fee ) with a large viewing window, cosy indoor seating, five outdoor decks including an open top deck for 360' degree viewing and panoramic photos. Apart from that, you may join an awesome 5 Stars Coach with Glass roof & Scenic Cruise Tour, which includes a free international buffet lunch and a hotel pickup at Queenstown, Te Anau or The Divide, and yet, a flyback option to Queenstown is available. However me and my honey were more elated by self-driving. We could have our stops freely anywhere & anytime we like.

Yeah! We reached the Milford Sound ( Piopiotahi in Maori ) Launch Terminal after a 20 minutes easy & relax walk by the Foreshore Walk from parking lot.

Welcome ( Kia Ora in Maori which means literally "be well or healthy", informally means "Hi", a greeting word ).

Posed for photo before collecting our ticket indoor...

Regardless of Te Anau or Milford Sound, both keep updating the condition and climate of the road for visitors daily, especially people self drove as us, who wasn't quite enough experienced for certain road circumstance. Thanks God, the weather was great and road condition was calm during we landed in, or we gotta be obstructed for accessing Milford Sound otherwise.

Southern Discoveries > information and ticketing counter, needed to check in prior boarding...

Yeah! We have checked in and got our boarding pass...

Bat-winged Cannibal Fly, the world's rarest fly...

Te Namu ( Sandfly or blackfly )- "The most mischievous animal-by Captain Cook in 1773". Everyone need to be very careful and aware of Sandfly, the extremely poisonous blood-sucking insect vigorous in Milford region. It may carries the viruses or spreads deceases which is very deadly as Chandipura Virus. Sandfly bites may leave large, red itchy bumps that may turn into a rash. These bumps are frequently several times as itchy as mosquito bites, but tend to last much more longer and severe as well.

Most importantly we need to prepare a repellent for sandfly beforehand, any mosquito repellent works on sandfly as well, or we may buy this "Natural Goodbye Sandfly, bug repellent & bite soother" from Milford Sound ticketing counter itself. Besides there are many remedies recommended by the locals and experts through mixing certain natural plants with almond oil/ baby oil. Some say Lavender lotion is effective to repel the sandfly as well, perhaps you may try it and let me know if it works effectively. ^^

Magnificent scenery, enjoyed the breathtaking atmosphere while awaiting get on board...

The weather was quite cloudy & foggy~

Milford Mariner, an Overnight Milford Cruise ( the bigger blue-colored cruise ), and our 1h 45min Southern Discoveries Scenic Cruise ( the white, red-colored cruise ).

The increasing passengers were awaiting on board...

Just love the atmosphere...

Posing & posing again....^^

Can't wait to be seated aboard and enjoy our lunch on cruise with the stunning vista of Milford Sound ( As a matter of fact, I was starving after an almost 5 hours remote drove from Queenstown ).

Milford Mariner Overnight Cruise ( the huger in blue colored )....

Posing in front of our cruise..while awaiting...

The moment we awaiting to get on board, despite we have applied the repellent beforehand ( which I found sort of stinky ), yet the sandfly constantly revolved around us especially me ( in fact mosquito rather fond on me than my honey most of the time ). Nevertheless we were never bitten by the sandflies. ^^

Miltre Peak, Milford Sound- An iconic mountain in the South Island, New Zealand. It's also one of the most photographed peaks in the country. It closes to the shore of Milford Sound in the Fiordland National Park, southwestern South Island. Nevertheless we were unfortunate to get an unobstructed vista of it due to the foggy atmospheric condition.

The sea water quite clear...
